Today the British public have a good set of teeth and general oral health due to the hardworking and dedication of their local dentist, dentistry has been around for a long time making sure that people’s oral health and hygiene are kept in check, but this is not the case for some people, who mistakenly believe that one should only see a dentist if there is a problem. This is not the case and you should visit your dentist at least twice yearly.
A dental visit is like being examined by a doctor but for your mouth, and with your two yearly check-ups he will be able to diagnose problems that you might not be aware of, which in turn can lead to further problems down the line, after all prevention is still the best form of a cure.
So what should you expect from your dentist at your check up, first of all there are two kinds of check-ups, one is where the dentist will do a quick examination of your teeth and gums, the dentist may also give your teeth a quick clean and take a x-ray to check for any signs of decay or other problems associated with your teeth and gums, usually if something is found to be wrong you would then make an appointment for a later date to correct the fault.
Secondly there is a full examination of your mouth which is known as a comprehensive examination; with this examination your dentist in Matlock will take an in-depth look at your whole mouth, jaw, head and neck to check for any underling problem such as tooth decay and even mouth cancer. The dentist will also ask you about your medical history to update their records. Comprehensive examinations are recommended once every 2-3 years or when you maybe change dentist on your first visit so that your dentist can get to know about you and your dental needs.
Dental check-ups are especially important for younger people to help maintain and promote healthy oral hygiene into adulthood, making sure your teeth last a lifetime.
